Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair taking part in special double-header this weekend

On Saturday 27th May, we are delighted to announce that our Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair Senior and Development teams will be taking part in a special double-header at Robin Park.

This weekend, two of the biggest clubs in the history of Rugby League will come together to host a standalone festival to showcase the wheelchair game. The event will mark the third weekend of Wigan vs Leeds action, following the recent Super League and Challenge Cup fixtures.

The day will get underway with a game between the team’s respective development sides, kicking off at 12:45pm. For the Rhinos, this is the development squad’s second ever game, following their 22-6 win over Hull FC last weekend.

Following the conclusion of the development game, our Betfred Super League wheelchair team will take on their Wigan counterparts in a friendly, showcase match, kicking off at 3pm. Fans can enjoy the full match-day experience with a Guard of Honour and flag waving in place as the senior teams enter the court.

Head Coach, James Simpson, said:

“We’re all really looking forward to this Saturday. Wigan Warriors are pulling out all the stops to make it a great day. It’s a total standalone game to showcase Wheelchair RL as two of the biggest clubs in Rugby League history come together to celebrate the game! They’ll be a host of players from last year’s RLWC who have become household names taking to the pitch, as well as the second match for our development side who will get to experience the game day excitement. It’s just going to be ace!”

We are encouraging fans to make the journey to Wigan for this special double-header event in what is set be a true representation of the growth of the game. In addition to two games, spectators can also visit the Fan Village for a meet and greet following the conclusion of the senior fixture.
