Leeds Rhinos Foundation – What’s on this week?

What's on this week?

Another week is here and the Leeds Rhinos Foundation are out in the community changing lives through sport. Here is a rundown of events on this week in Leeds

Get involved in social rugby league at a free Tag Rugby Taster Session at John Smeaton Leisure Centre (30th August and 6th September)

Leeds Rhinos Foundation in partnership with Try Tag Rugby are offering a new weekly Tag Rugby League competition at John Smeaton Academy with another FREE taster session this week (6th September).

Ran by Try Tag Rugby Yorkshire, the taster sessions will be a pre-cursor to the new Autumn league starting at John Smeaton Leisure Centre from Tuesday 13th September, which will run for 8 weeks.

The taster sessions are a perfect chance for adult players (male & female aged 14+), who have never played Tag Rugby before, to have a go and see what the fun and friendly rugby format is all about.

Rugby League is a great way to stay fit and have plenty of fun. In addition to the John Smeaton league opportunities exist at a number of our weeknight leagues including Oulton (Monday), Alwoodley (Monday), Bingley (Tuesday) and Weetwood Sports Park (Wednesday).

Players of all sporting abilities and rugby experience levels, including complete rugby novices are all welcome, with the taster sessions providing an easy introduction to the game and suitable for all levels of fitness.

Following the taster sessions, players can then sign up for an 8-week Autumn League at John Smeaton Leisure Centre with players able to sign up as individuals, small groups or full teams for the 7 a 'side format incorporating 4 males and 3 females on the pitch at a time.

If you sign up as an individual or group, you will be placed with other individuals and groups to make a team. Each team will play one 40-minute game each week and this will be followed by a weekly after match social where players will get the chance to have a drink and a bite to eat with their team mates and opposition in a local pub.

Come along to a Walking Netball session with England Netball as part of the Rhinos Active Social programme for over 55s (Tuesday 6th Septmber)

Every week Leeds Foundation invites over 55s to partake in the Rhinos Active Social club. This week the Rhinos Active Social group will be visited by England Netball who will provide a special Walking Netball session for the group.

Built on the premise of a friendly, casual atmosphere group members enjoy socialising and the sessions put on by the friendly staff.

Over the two hours a wide variety of activities including beginner's yoga, tai chi and chair based exercise are offered to encourage physical activity for those wanting to keep fit.

If that's not for you, not to worry as members are welcome to attend simply for the interaction and free refreshments.

The aim of the project is simple – to engage the older community in activities to improve their physical, mental and social well-being by taking part in regular activities.

Sessions run every Tuesday 10:30am-12:30pm and cost just £2 per week.
