Leeds Rhinos Foundation visit Leeds City College in partnership with St James’s Place Foundation

Liam Sutcliffe joined the group for some outdoor Rugby League and to sign autographs with the students

Earlier this year Leeds Rhinos Foundation was awarded funding by St James’s Place Foundation to deliver Rugby League activities in Leeds based SILCs and their Partner Schools. Through this partnership children and young people with Special Educational Needs and disabilities will engage in rugby, multi-skills and derivative formats of the sport.

Last month as part of this project, Leeds Rhinos Foundation provided two weeks of classroom and outdoor workshops on team building, communication and Tag Rugby, as part of the diversity sports delivery programme to engage Foundation entry level students from Leeds City College on horticultural and animal care courses.

The sessions were led by Community Clubs Development Officer, Sam Horner, and hosted by the Horsforth Campus at Leeds City College. There was also chance for the students to take photos with the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup trophy and Ronnie the Rhino and take part in a Q&A with Leeds Rhinos star Liam Sutcliffe who talked about the importance of team work and communication at the professional level and how they applied to the Leeds Rhinos Challenge Cup winning success last year.

The Leeds Rhinos Foundation will continue their work in this field supported by St James's Place Foundation by offering sessions in some of the city's centre's for specialist learning in the coming months.
