As part of its commitment to developing Rugby League at grassroots level and to supporting the growth of the game through its groundbreaking Rugby League Development Plan, sponsored by Mears, Leeds Rhinos Foundation are set to launch a brand new programme of Coach Education workshops for 2018.
Coaches from the charity’s Ambassador Clubs and Schools are invited to a launch night at Emerald Headingley Stadium on 5th February to hear about the new calendar of events for the year ahead.
As always the Coach Education concept, which last year saw several workshops delivered and 304 coaches attend, will be supported by Leeds Rhinos coaching staff. Rhinos Assistant coach, Barry Eaton, and Head of Athletic Performance, Jason Davidson will attend the launch night and run sessions over the year to pass on their insight and knowledge.
The new Coach Education programme for 2018 will aim to upskill Community Club coaches with workshops that will be catered to meet the needs of the coaches. There will also be the formation of a coaching association membership and Creating Coaching Resources for community coaches to use.
Speaking about the Coach Education programme Barry Eaton said: "I have been involved with the Coach Education programme for some time now and I think it is a great initiative. It is important as a club that we support our community clubs and I believe by helping to upskill the coaches who work with our young players in schools and clubs is will be a great benefit to the development of the game."
Leeds Rhinos Foundation already work closely with the city’s community teams to offer support to players and staff and the coaching programme will be supported by Ian Hardman, Callum Tolson, Lois Forsell, Joe Sanderson, Sam Horner and Leon Crick will also attend the launch night to answer questions.
The evening will consist of a discussion on workshop topics for 2018 and there will be opportunities to ask the Leeds Rhinos coaching performance team questions.
There will be Tea, Coffee and Juice served followed by our Leeds Rhinos staff members breaking out into groups to discuss with their relevant clubs their needs and more importantly asking for their ideas on how the Coach Education programme can help coaches develop their coaching skills. This will form the basis of a development plan of delivery and support for the year ahead.
