Leeds Rhinos Foundation supporting Headingley Literature Festival

The Headingley Literature Festival has been running since 2005

Leeds Rhinos Foundation are running a joint event as part of the Headingley Litfest on Wednesday 9th March, hosted at the Tryzone Education Centre at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

Guests will have the opportunity to hear from sports author Tony Collins as he discusses his new book ‘The Oval World: A Global History of Rugby’ with a selection of passages in the book illustrated through historic film footage of rugby’s evolution in Leeds.

Tony Collins is Professor of History and former Director of the International Centre for Sports History and Culture at De Montfort University. His previous books include Rugby’s Great Split, Rugby League in Twentieth Century Britain, and A Social History of English Rugby Union, each of which won the Aberdare prize for sports history book of the year.

The Headingley Lit Fest was created in early 2008 and operates under the wing of Headingley Network, a community organisation which works to improve the environment and facilities for the local community.

Doug Sandle, coordinator at Headingley Litfest said:

‘The Headingley LitFest is delighted to be working with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation to feature Tony Collins and his new book on the world history of rugby. The event is to be held at Headingley Carnegie Stadium as part of the literature festival which will be a real highlight in the programme.’

The event takes place on Wednesday 9th March at 7.15pm, for a cost of £4. All proceeds from ticket sales will support the work of Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Headingley Litfest in the local communities.
