Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Yorkshire Cricket Foundation launch Children’s Day 2017

Leeds Rhinos star Jimmy Keinhorst and Ashton Golding joined pupils from Christchurch Primary School to launch this year's event

Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Yorkshire Cricket Foundation will be teaming up this summer to host the annual Children’s Day on Sunday 16th July as Headingley Carnegie Stadium opens its gates for Leeds’ biggest free family festival.

Children’s Day, which has been held annually at Headingley Carnegie Stadium since 2008, will see thousands of families across the region attend the day-long event, which brings together a host of organisations from Yorkshire every year to provide a memorable day of activities for children.

Another big draw for fans of both sporting organisations will be appearances from the Leeds Rhinos squad throughout the day and Rhinos stars Ashton Golding and Jimmy Keinhorst joined pupils from Christchurch Primary School at Headingley Carnegie for the launch of this year's Children's Day.

“It’s great to be able to help launch Children's Day which is always one of the highlights of the year for the players," said Golding.

“I've done a few Children's Day events now and every year it seems to get bigger with so many different activities going on around the stadium. It's a great chance for us as players to get to meet the fans and spend some time with them, so I'm looking forward to it and hopefully it will be another good turnout at the stadium in July."

The event is supported each year by a number of partners including long term partner the Garry Chappelow Memorial fund along with local organisations such as Leeds City Council and West Yorkshire Police and will also be supported by new associate partner Nando’s restaurant in 2017.

The event also brings together a host of child friendly organisations providing activities on the day including Eureka, The Rainbow Factory and The Works Skatepark with Yorkshire Cricket and Leeds Rhinos giving children the chance to practice their skills with coaching and skills zones.

Yorkshire Cricket Foundation Project Officer Nick Robinson commented: “Children’s Day is a fantastic opportunity for families to enjoy a day out at the world famous Headingley Carnegie Stadium. There’s activities to suit all interests and ages and with this year’s talent show, no shortage of entertainment!”

Returning this year for the event will also be the popular junior sports tournaments for community teams from the city, which will take place on the famous Headingley Carnegie Stadium cricket and rugby pitches.

Leeds Rhinos Foundation will be showcasing the impact of their Rugby League Development Plan and Sky Try delivery with special under 7s tournament including a number of newly formed teams in the club ambassador scheme enjoying matches on the pitch.

Children’s Day 2017 takes place on Sunday 16th July. The gates for the event will open at 10am and close at 4pm; admission is completely free for everyone, as are the activities when inside the ground.

Families attending the event can make a suggested donation of £3 per adult and £1 per child attending on entry, all proceeds will support the work of Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Yorkshire Cricket Foundation.
