Rhinos legends Kevin Sinfield MBE and Barrie McDermott will be running in the Leeds 10k on 9th July as part of the Run with the Rhinos team to raise money for Leeds Rhinos Foundation.
Sinfield, who is the most successful captain in the Rhinos’ history, raced in the Asda Foundation Leeds 10k for the first time last year in just under 45 minutes, whilst McDermott has been a regular in the Run with the Rhinos team and will be running in the 10k for the eighth time.
The former team mates are urging Rhinos fans to join them for the Leeds 10k and raise money for the official charity of Leeds Rhinos.
“The Leeds 10k is a great occasion for the city," said Sinfield. "It is fantastic to see so many people come out to support the runners and I am looking forward to being part of the team again this year.
“I am a Vice President of Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the charity do terrific work to develop our game, help people make positive changes in their lives and offer inspiration to the most vulnerable people in their community and I am proud to represent them in the Run with the Rhinos team.”
McDermott added: “It will be good to line up with Kev again for the Leeds 10k and I hope fans will join us and take on the challenge. Even if running a 10k may seem a daunting prospect it is achievable and the feeling when you cross the finish line and look back at what you have accomplished will make all the hard work worth it.”
All runners who sign up for the Run with the Rhinos team will get a Run with the Rhinos race t-shirt to wear on the day, fundraising support, a group fitness session provided by a registered personal trainer and a half time match day parade at Headingley Carnegie Stadium. All fundraisers who raise more than £200 are entered into a prize draw to win two Corporate Match day Hospitality tickets to a Leeds Rhinos home fixture.
Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s director of operations, Bob Bowman, said he was thrilled to have the former Rhinos support the Run with the Rhinos team. “I am delighted that both Kevin and Barrie have signed up to run for our charity. They are both inspirational sportsmen and I am sure Rhinos fans will jump at the chance to wear the same shirt and be part of the same team as them.
“Leeds Rhinos Foundation has a team of committed individuals trained in educating, inspiring and improving the lives of children and adults through our sport, education, health and arts projects and we are grateful to all those who fundraise for our charity as this helps us to continue the work we do to change lives through sport.”
