Leeds Rhinos Foundation is pleased to announce that one of the Leeds Rhinos’ most celebrated players Kevin Sinfield MBE, will take up a role as one of the charity’s Vice Presidents.

The Rhinos legend, who recently brought the curtain down on an 19 year career having played over 520 games and winning six Super League titles as captain of the club, becomes the sixth person to take up the role of Vice President, following in the footsteps of Greg Mullholland MP, Ryan Sidebottom, Nell McAndrew, Matthew Lewis and the Kaiser Chiefs in supporting the club’s official charity.

Despite hanging his boots up for the Leeds Rhinos at the end of the 2015 season, the legendary figure will continue his links with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the club, by continuing to champion the charity he has worked alongside during his career at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

The Leeds Rhinos Foundation celebrated their 10 year anniversary last week and the event provided the opportunity for the Leeds Rhinos Foundation to recognise the achievements of the club’s most successful captain with the title of Vice President, a moniker that the thirty-five-year-old is proud to receive:

“I am honoured to have been asked to be a Vice President of this wonderful charity and I am looking forward to being involved with their many worthwhile project in the future,” said Sinfield.

"The Leeds Rhinos Foundation is this year 'Ten Years Young" and to have seen their growth and impact over that decade has been truly remarkable, the staff team are passionate about delivering on their mission to 'Change Lives Through Sport" and this is done with such energy and enthusiasm working under their pillars of Education, Health, Sport, Arts, and Heritage.”

The Charity founded in 2005, that works with an estimated 50,000 people a year under its five focus pillars of Education, Health, Sport, Art and Heritage receives unparalleled support from the Leeds Rhinos playing staff, who regularly participate in Foundation run events and projects in the Leeds community with over 600 combined appearances each year.

Leeds Rhinos Foundation Director of Operations, Bob Bowman commented on the appointment:

“We are delighted that Kevin has decided to accept our offer to become Vice President of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation. Kevin is a national icon in the world of Rugby so this is a landmark moment for the charity to appoint someone of his calibre and standing in the community as a Vice President.

“To have someone with Kevin’s profile supporting the charity he has contributed so much to over his playing career is fantastic for us and all he has achieved inside and outside of the game will continue to be an inspiration for the people we work with in the community.”
