Junior Indoor Touch Rugby Festivals return this Winter

Junior Touch Festival at Leeds Sports Centre

Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s commitment to supporting the development of Rugby League through their Rugby League Development Plan, sponsored by Mears, will once again see them offer Indoor Touch Rugby Festivals throughout winter.

The Winter Indoor Touch Festivals were introduced eight years ago to offer the charity’s Ambassador Clubs the opportunity to play in mini games during their off season, with the larger aim of improving the skill development of junior players aged six to 11.

The format of the tournaments is five-a-side touch rugby which is designed to improve elements of the young players games such as speed, agility, teamwork, communication and technique.

The Festivals are organised by Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s community clubs development officer, Sam Horner, who said: “The indoor touch programme is a benefit for our Ambassador clubs and the feedback we get from them is very positive, with coaches saying the opportunity for their players to compete in smaller games helps their skill development. This programme is part of a wider initiative to improve the standards in the game by offering children more opportunities to play.”
