North East School Games Officer

Contractual Status Annual (1 year fixed)
Strategic Aims  

The role is to support the delivery of the Schools Games  and deliver local and city-wide events as part of the Leeds Well School Partnership strategic plan.

The role includes working with Leeds Rhinos Foundation during school holiday to support and deliver on the multi sports camps in partnership with local ward councillors.

The School Games inspires young people to be physically active for life through positive experiences of daily activity and competition.

The Leeds Well School Partnership is a city-wide offer but with a localised approach to support schools within Leeds. Each group of local, likeminded schools work together to promote and develop, through collaboration and partnership, a sustainable system for physical activity, PE, sport and well-being that enriches and makes a real difference to the lives of all children and young people in that area.

 

Purpose of the role  

1.      To support the Northeast SGO role 2 days per week as well as supporting other local and city-wide events with the West and South SGO role. Create strong partnerships with local schools and PE leads.

 

2.      Support the SGO’s to ensure physical activity and competition provision supports young people’s wider development including their ability to re-socialise and supports their psychological and physiological fitness.

 

3.      Contribute to ongoing provision that targets young people for who physical activity levels have been most negatively impacted by COVID-19 (those particularly from low socio-economic areas, BAME, SEND and Girls).

 

4.      Support secondary school engagement – with a focus on supporting those young people who have just transitioned into Year 7/8.

 

Assist to ensure the local offer provides opportunities for young people to take on leadership and volunteering roles.

Key Responsibilities Support and assist the agreed local programme for Physical Activity, PE and Sport to include:

·        Support events with all primary schools and secondary schools within the SSP areas

·        Work with key partners to lead Competitions, Events and Festivals

·        Promote High Quality PE

·        Support Leadership Programmes

·        Attend CPD opportunities and promote good practice

·        Support the holiday provision provided by Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

·        Promote links to Leeds Rhinos Foundation resources and support the SGO role with regards monitoring and evaluation.

Additional Responsibilities

 

·        Attend relevant meetings

·        Attend relevant CPD

·        Attend school events as and when necessary

·        Update Outlook calendar on a weekly basis

·        Knowledge and understanding of Pupil and Sport Premium and the SGO role.

Skills and Qualities Required  

·        Support and assist high quality physical activity/ physical education and sport

·        Have the knowledge and understanding of how data can be used to improve outcomes

·        Work independently and as part of team, developing a collaborative way of working.

·        Understand equality and diversity

·        Have excellent inter-personal skills

·        Communicate effectively

·        Challenge, motivate, engage and sustain the interest of others.

·        Be a competent user of IT

·        Promote partner values

·        Know and understand Local, Regional and National strategies.

·        Commitment to personal CPD.

Qualifications/ Experience Required ·        An appropriate degree is preferred but not essential.

·        Safeguarding, First Aid, Enhanced DBS.

·        A driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Strategic Aims  

The School Games inspires young people to be physically active for life through positive experiences of daily activity and competition.

The role of the SGO is to support all schools in the local area by promoting the importance of physical activity and coordinating appropriate competitive opportunities to be enjoyed by all young people across Key Stages 2-4. In addition, the SGO will recruit, train, and deploy a suitable workforce and support the development of club opportunities for all young people.

The postholder will work with national guidance from Sport England and the Youth Sport Trust and within a local partnership of School Games Organisers, the Active Partnership, and wider stakeholders.

The Leeds Well School Partnership is a city-wide offer but with a localised approach to support schools within Leeds. Each group of local, likeminded schools work together to promote and develop, through collaboration and partnership, a sustainable system for physical activity, PE, sport and well-being that enriches and makes a real difference to the lives of all children and young people in that area.

The West and Northwest Leeds Well School Partnership Strategic Lead will support schools in these areas of Leeds and will support the partnership work across the city.

Purpose of the role  

1.      To maintain school engagement and support schools to continue to prioritise and deliver 60 active minutes for every child thus providing opportunities for young people to improve their physical, emotional and social wellbeing.

 

2.      To ensure physical activity and competition provision supports young people’s wider development including their ability to re-socialise and supports their psychological and physiological fitness.

 

3.       To identify and have ongoing provision that targets young people for who physical activity levels have been most negatively impacted by COVID-19 (those particularly from low socio-economic areas, BAME, SEND and Girls).

 

4.      To have a continued focus on secondary school engagement – with a focus on supporting those young people who have just transitioned into Year 7/8.

 

To ensure that the local offer provides opportunities for young people to take on leadership and volunteering roles.

Key Responsibilities Co-ordinate and administer the agreed local programme for Physical Activity, PE and Sport to include:

·        Implement and deliver a calendar of support and events with all primary schools and secondary schools within the SSP area.

·        Liaise with high school PE departments for accessing facilities and young leaders to support cluster events.

·        Work with key partners to lead Competitions, Events and Festivals

·        Promote High Quality PE

·        Identification of talent and signpost to various Intervention Programmes

·        Out of School Hours Learning Programmes

·        Leadership Programmes

·        Elements of CPD/ Good Practice

·        Club/ Community links and Pathways

·        Co-ordinate links to Leeds Rhinos Foundation resources and opportunities.

·        Advise and support on indoor and outdoor environments.

The staff member will monitor and evaluate the impact of their work, always manage their workload effectively and ensure safeguarding through adhering to individual school/ partner policies.
