Role Title: Leeds Well School Partnership School Rugby Manager and Programme Coordinator

Responsible to: Leeds Well Schools Partnership Director

Hours: 37 hours / week (52 weeks / year)

Salary Scale: Competitive

Contract: 1 Year contracted to LRF, September 2025 to August 2026

Purpose: The fundamental aim of the Leeds Well School Partnership (LWSP) is to put wellbeing at the heart of education through Physical Activity, PE and Sport. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the RFU School Rugby Manager role and supporting the delivery of the LWSP offer.

Task or Responsibility

For this role, there is an expectation that all, or a combination, of the following will be undertaken:

School Rugby Manager (SRM):

England Rugby have an ambition to engage an additional 5000 state primary and secondary schools to Rugby Union by 2027; this growth will be driven by a network of School Rugby Managers.  The SRM will be working across a network of secondary schools, primary schools and linked clubs in a geographic area. You will be responsible for leading rugby development in your area, working to coordinate and facilitate activity (such as school playing opportunities and teacher training) and build systems to grow the game in schools and forge sustainable links to local clubs.

The aim is to maximise participation, especially with currently underrepresented groups, develop staff and young leaders, provide playing opportunities and link students and schools to local community clubs by

 

  • Engaging more young people in rugby union, through using student voice to understand previous barriers to participation and school-club transition and adapting offers based on this insight
  • Upskilling teachers and young leaders in rugby union delivery
  • Advocating for rugby union as curriculum activity and support staff in achieving RFU accredited courses
  • Providing rugby union as an extracurricular activity
  • Enabling students to participate in new rugby competitions/festivals
  • Supporting progression and expansion of rugby union within schools where it is already delivered
  • Linking and building partnerships with other RFU local delivery partners, community departments in rugby clubs (if applicable), local RFU staff and local school/college rugby providers to ensure a joined-up approach within geographic area which maximises investment
  • Working in collaboration with local clubs using local insight to develop and enhance school-club links and transition.
  • Supporting transition of rugby participation from primary to secondary then onto further education
  • Leading on local delivery of national RFU participation programmes (such as Year 9 T1 Rugby Series)
  • Collecting and reporting on data relating to agreed Key Performance Indicators
  • Providing good new stories, case studies, models of good practice and insight which can be used across other partnerships.

 

Programme Coordinator:

  • Supporting and coordinating the implementation and delivery of LWSP local offer in targeted areas including:

– Implementing and delivering a calendar of support and events with all schools

– Liaising with local providers including secondary schools for accessing facilities and young leaders to support events

– Overseeing risk assessments for area events

  • Supporting the overseeing and monitoring budgets
  • Monitoring school engagement, following up with appropriate actions
  • Contributing to termly reporting
  • Developing relationships with local area key partners

 

Additional Duties:

  • Assist with special projects or duties as required to support Leeds Well School Partnership goals
  • Contribute to the overall success of the team by supporting colleagues and collaborating across strategic areas as needed including:

– Supporting the planning and delivery of the LWSP Competitions and Events Programme

– Supporting the PD Programme

– Supporting the development of partners and programmes

 

  • Attending relevant meetings
  • Attending relevant CPD
  • Attending LWSP, LRF and other events as and when necessary
  • Updating Outlook calendar on a weekly basis
  • Updating relevant monitoring and evaluation / data collection tools
  • Supporting Leeds Rhinos Foundation areas of work as appropriate

 

Health and Safety:

  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and policies set by the organisation
  • Take responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment by following safety protocols and ensuring that all equipment is used properly
  • Immediately report any hazards, incidents, or accidents to the appropriate authorities or supervisors
  • Participate in health and safety training sessions and actively contribute to the promotion of a culture of safety within the team
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations regarding workplace safety, and take proactive steps to minimise risks to health and well-being

 

Travel:

  • This role will require travel to events, meetings, etc, both within the Leeds area and possibly regional.
  • The employee will be expected to manage travel arrangements and expenses in accordance with company policies.
