Girls Tag Rugby Qualifying Festival returns to Stanningley ARLFC

The Leeds Rhinos Foundation held the annual girls Tag Rugby Festival at Stanningley ARFLC this week for 16 Primary School teams from around Leeds, sending 8 teams through to the finals at the end of the month.

The festival organised by Women and Girls Development Officer Lois Forsell, brought in teams from all areas of Leeds, many of which were taking part in a competitive Rugby festival for the first time.

Girls sport participation was in the headlines last week with the celebration of Women Sports Week, something that the Leeds Rhinos Foundation has embraced with a series of projects targeting girls and women's participation in Rugby League in formats such as Tag, Touch and full contact forms of the game, through the Leeds Rhinos Foundation's Development plan for Rugby League sponsored by key partners Mears.

Following on from another well participated Jane Tomlinson Festival of Rugby for high school girls at the Leeds Rugby Academy facilities just a day earlier, Wednesday's festival gave Primary school girls in year 5 and 6 another opportunity to take part in some developmental rugby league with a Tag rugby festival designed

The festival was another great example of the success of the plan with 16 teams and over 150 girls taking part with schools from Churwell, Pudsey Lowtown, Raynville, All Saints, Summerfield, Richmond Hill, Castleton and Shadwell all qualifying first and second in their group to make it through to finals day.

The Leeds Rhinos Foundation would like to thank all schools for taking part in the festival including Holy Family, Shire Oaks, East Ardsley, Rothwell St Mary's, Bramley St Peter's, Valley View, St Patrick's and Grimes Dyke.

Confirmed details of the finals date and time will be announced shortly.
