Leeds Rhinos Foundation is encouraging the Leeds community to kick start their winter fitness goals by enjoying weekly social rugby with Leeds City Council’s Indoor Touch Rugby programme managed by the Sport and Active Lifestyles Service
Now in its fifth year, the league hosted at South Leeds Stadium both indoor and outdoor through the year, is returning with the support of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation, who will be providing equipment and a chance for young referees to gain experience as qualified touch rugby referees.
The league, which is played to international touch rugby rules, is suitable for mixed genders and all abilities, with teams of players as well as individuals welcome to ‘turn up and play.’
Teams consist of up to eight players incorporating three subs and five outfield players, playing two 20 minute halves spread over the evening with different kick off times varying each week from 6-9pm.
The indoor Winter league due to start soon, in the Bowls and Athletics arena costs £25 per team with ‘turn up and play’ players welcome to attend and pay an individual fee of £3 per person.
The programme is also looking for new referees to officiate the weekly fixtures with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation's ‘Ref with the Rhinos’ mentoring scheme available for people interested in working towards a referee qualification to and a chance to learn to referee a different rugby format where they can earn £10 per game refereeing this winter.
