Foundation launch MOTIVATE project to help people living with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Leeds Rhinos Foundation is delighted to announce the launch of a new programme in Leeds for people living with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

MOTIVATE is a fun and exciting nutrition and physical activity programme run in partnership with Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust and Leeds Cares and supported by Leeds Beckett University. The 12-week course offers you the chance to make small health changes through tailored, weekly physical activity and nutrition sessions in venues across the city.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) affects around 1% of the population. In addition to joint damage, RA increases their risk for heart disease and weakens their muscles. Appropriate nutrition and exercise may help reduce these side-effects of RA and also improve joint function. However, in a recent survey of RA patients, 52% of patients did not participate in any sports or exercise and 58% wanted to exercise more.

Therefore, the MOTIVATE programme aims to provide people with opportunities to get active and engage in exercise in a safe and friendly environment.

Laura Buckle, Health Officer for Leeds Rhinos Foundation, said: “The MOTIVATE project is something we have been working on with our partners for a while now and we are really excited at Leeds Rhinos Foundation to be able to launch the service.

“I would encourage anyone who is interested to find out more by coming along to one of our free ‘Tea and Talk’ events. These are the perfect opportunity for anyone interested to find about more and see if the programmes are for them- no obligation just a warm welcome and a cup of tea awaiting!”
