Congratulations to our Women and Girls Development Officer, Lois Forsell, who has been nominated for the Sportswoman of the Year award at the Leeds Sports Awards.
The 15th annual Leeds Sports Awards will take place on Thursday 1st March 2018 at the first direct Arena, commemorating Leeds’ proud sporting heritage.
Lois has been nominated following her successful year with the Bradford Bulls, who went all season unbeaten and won a historic treble of domestic trophies, the last of which was the Grand Final which Lois was named the player of the match in.
It has been an exciting year for the former East Leeds player, as she has been key to the planning and formation of Leeds Rhinos’ first women’s team, who will compete in the Women’s Super League competition in 2018 and she is currently representing the England Women’s team in the World Cup in Australia.
Speaking about her nomination Lois said: “I am thrilled to have received this nomination, alongside so many other great female athletes. I am a proud Leeds girl and am honoured to represent this great city. It has been a memorable year for myself, firstly to be involved in the treble winning team with Bradford and then to play for my country. I would like to thank all of my team mates and coaches for all their support this year.
“There are exciting times ahead for Rugby League in Leeds with the formation of the new Leeds Rhinos Women’s team and I have been overwhelmed by how many girls have come to try out for the team and the talent we have in Leeds.
“Events like the Leeds Sports Awards are important in highlighting all the great sporting achievements going on in the city and inspiring young athletes and I am sure it will be a fantastic event.”
Returning to Leeds’ iconic first direct arena for a second year, the event will welcome sportspersons of all levels and abilities, from Olympians to local athletes, as well as their coaches, volunteers, sponsors, dignitaries and more, to this vibrant celebration of sport.
Every year the Leeds Sports Awards proves to be the highlight of Leeds’ sporting calendar and the 2018 awards will be no different. We look forward to welcoming back a range of individuals from all levels of sport.
Alongside the nomination for Lois, Leeds Rhinos star Stevie Ward is up for Sportsman of the year and Brian McDermott has been given the nod for Coach Performance of the Year following his team’s success in the Grand Final
