Leeds Rhinos Foundation Partner Schools Officer Richard Tate ran a Primary School Tag Rugby Festival at Cobden Primary School for five schools from the Farnley Schools Cluster to help prepare the children for the city wide Tag Rugby festivals taking place later in the year.
Schools from Lawns Park, Ryecroft, Greenhill, Lower Wortley and hosts for the event Cobden Primary all took part in the event which was organised by teachers from the schools with the help of Partner Schools Officer Richard Tate to give children from the school in years 5 and 6 a chance to play some small sided competitive rugby.
Richard, who works in the Farnley area servicing a total of 8 schools, delivers up to 70 hours of P.E provision in multi-sports and rugby as a dedicated School's Partnership Officer working on pupils skill development but also offering guidance for pupils in their transition from participating in sport at school onto playing for local Community Clubs or other Activity Clubs.
Richard said:
"It's been great to get five of the schools together for a practice tournament today, some of the kids playing this afternoon are new to Rugby League and faired brilliantly, so it will hold them in good stead for when schools enter the year 5 and 6 regional qualifiers and the city wide finals later in the year.
"I'd like to thank the teachers from each of the schools, who really brought this tournament together today, there was some great talent on show with some kids who don't already play for clubs getting involved and showing how much they have learnt in lessons."
Members of the Farnley Falcons coaching staff were also invited to the event handing out flyers to help recruit for the club's junior sections going forward as the designated club for the Farnley schools cluster.
