Leeds Rhinos Wheelchair team were the first club to book their place in the 2017 Wheelchair Rugby League Grand Final at taking place in September while also securing a place in the Challenge Cup final with two wins against Medway Dragons at Morley Leisure Centre at the weekend
Rhinos wheelchair team, who closed out a fifth league win of the season, against the Medway Dragons at Morley Leisure Centre got off to a great start with Ewan Cibbens completing a first half hat trick of tries along with two tries for Josh Butler and Tom Haliwell and a try each from Nathan Collins and Tony Godward.
The Dragons never gave up and got on the score sheet when Martin Lane and Adam Barnett scored two tries each as they trailed by 56 points to 32 going into half time.
The Rhinos continued when continued their good form into the second half, when Jodie Boyd-Ward scored her first try of the game and more tries followed for the Rhinos scored by Butler, Godward and Haliwell.
Three more tries each for Boyd-Ward and Collins, plus two for Butler and a single try for Ryan Richardson saw the Rhinos close out an impressive victory, securing their place in the Wheelchair Rugby League Grand Final at Medway Park in September.
After securing their grand final berth in the first fixture, the Rhinos then made it a double success on the day winning their Challenge Cup semi final in another all Wheelchair Rugby Premier League affair against the Medway Dragons.
A great opening 10 minutes spell by the Dragons saw Joe Coyd and Martin Lane score three tries, to open up a 16 point gap.
Leeds then dragged themselves back into contention getting themselves on the score sheet when James Simpson and Tom Haliwell both scored their first tries of the game to close the first half gap on the Dragons.
The Dragons then reopened the gap to 10 points when Adam Barnett scored his first try of the game followed by a second try each for Coyd and Lane.
Despite Medway taking and extending their lead twice in the game, Leeds then took the game back to the Dragons at the end of the first half when Simpson, Nathan Collins and Josh Butler all scored a try each, to give the Rhinos a 6 points lead to close out an entertaining first half.
The Rhinos started the second half very strongly, adding three early tries through England internationals Jodie Boys-Ward and Sebastian Bechara, but the Dragons then kept the game alive through Lane, Coyd and Barnett, who scored a total of four ties to reduce the gap back to 12 points with just over twenty minutes left to go.
Then, as they had done in the first fixture of the day, the Rhinos put the result in no doubt further extending their lead as Simpson and Haliwell both found gaps in the Dragon's defensive line to score three tries to extend the gap back to 26 six points.
Another three tries followed for the Dragons through Coyd, Lane and Sebastian Groves but the Rhinos finished the game with a try each for Haliwell and Simpson to close out an enthralling game by 84 points to 66 and secure their progression through to their second Challenge Cup Final.
