Leeds Rhinos Development Academy fell to a narrow 22-18 defeat at the hands of Furness Raiders in a thrilling back and forth Colleges Premier Division clash.

The league leaders were seriously put to the test by Dan Hardy’s men, who showed just how far they’ve come since losing the first meeting with the Raiders 46-12 back in October.

Rhinos hit back from an early 12-0 deficit as Josh Beevers scored the pick of the afternoon’s tries, returning a kick 90 metres to score under the posts. The visitors scored twice more after the interval to extend their lead to 22-6, but it was a nervy finish for the Cumbrians after tries from Jack Flanagan and Tyler Dargan cut their lead to just one score.

Despite a spell of late pressure, Rhinos were unable to breach the Raiders’ line again and fell just short of pulling off a shock win. The result leaves the Rhinos Development Academy in fourth place in the Colleges Premier Division table, with 6 points from their 7 games played.

The side return to action next week when they travel over the Pennines to face Hopwood Hall College on Wednesday 15th January, kick off 2pm.
