Countdown begins for Bowman’s 15 in 15 Marathon Challenge

Bowman has received support from Rhinos stars Danny McGuire and Stevie Ward

On 12th May Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Director of Operations, Bob Bowman, will begin an gruelling challenge of completing 15 marathons in 15 consecutive days to raise money for Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

For the first ten days Bowman will join runners fundraising for Brathay Trust, who are taking on ten marathons around Lake Windermere for the Brathay 10 in 10, before completing a further five marathons.

Back in 2007 Sir Christopher Ball suggested that the ASICS Windermere Marathon incorporated a 10 marathons in 10 days endurance running event.

In its first year seven dedicated athletes established benchmark times and developed a model of support required to complete 10 marathons over consecutive days. The Brathay 10in10 is now regularly described as the "UK’s ultimate endurance running event.”

Legendary fell runner Joss Naylor MBE is Patron of the Brathay10in10. Joss will be on the start line to see all the runners off for their first marathon and returns to welcome them back after running 262 miles over 10 days.

Following the ten marathons Bowman will push himself even further for five more days to complete an additional five marathons to make his way back to Headingley Carnegie Stadium ahead of the Leeds Rhinos v Warrington game.

“I am really hoping that Rhinos fans and followers of this great Club and Foundation recognise that at 50 I am really stepping out of my comfort zone and taking on a tough challenge,” Bowman said.  “Since 2007 only 94 people have completed the Brathay 10 Marathons in 10 days challenge, I am determined to increase that number by completing that part of the challenge and then the attraction of running home to Headingley Carnegie Stadium was too good to resist, hence five more marathons.”
