Corpus Christi Primary School children bring school year to an end with a Rhinos Takeover Day

Children at one of Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s partner school, Corpus Christi Primary School, enjoyed a memorable day to mark the end of the school year, with a Rhinos Takeover Day, sponsored by Caddick Construction and Cover Structure.

Leeds Rhinos Foundation staff were joined by Rhinos stars Anthony Mullally and Jordan Baldwinson for a special sports day that the charity’s staff delivered alongside the school’s staff.  The entire school got involved in the sports activities with traditional games such as the egg and spoon race, relays and skipping alongside some rugby skills in the Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s skill zone.

The Rhinos Takeover Days are sponsored by Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s key partners, Caddick Constructions and Cover Structure, and through their support not only does every child get to experience a unique day in their school but they also are offered a Rhinos match day ticket at a reduced price and invited to take part in a half time pitch parade at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

Speaking about their involvement with Leeds Rhinos Foundation Chris Wilson, Commercial Manager at Caddick Construction, said: “I was brought up quite local to the school and know the area well. It was great to attend the Takeover Day and see so many people getting involved.  It had a great community atmosphere was a real, feel good day.

“These Takeover Days encourage children to get active and learn the value of team work and that is always important, whether that be on a rugby field or in any business.  At Caddick Construction we work closely with our sub-contractors to offer and deliver a good job and it’s no different on the rugby field and it’s no different at school.  The team effort and how you work together is vital and helps provide a better product for everybody and it’s great these children are learning this from a young age.”

The Rhinos Takeover Days are part of a wider school delivery that Leeds Rhinos Foundation offer to schools across Leeds to support curriculum physical education.  The charity employs multi-skilled qualified coaches who go into their partner schools to provide a variety of coaching.

Gareth Cook, Community Manager at Leeds Rhinos Foundation explained: “The work we do is all aimed at the curriculum, so our coaches deliver sessions that cover invasion games like rugby but also hitting and striking games, net and wall games, fundamentals of movement and dance so it’s an all-round sports delivery that we offer.

“Usually the Rhinos Takeover involves our staff going into a school and doing coaching but the day at Corpus Christi was a little different as the school requested we do a sports day, which was great fun and was supported by all the staff at the school and all the parents were able to come down too.

”We were also able to welcome Chris Wilson, Commercial Manager at Caddick Construction and Gavin Quinlan, Managing Director at Cover Structure to come along to the school to experience the Takeover Day and to thank them for their support.  Their backing of our work has allowed hundreds of children throughout the year enjoy a unique day in their school and also the chance to see some of the city’s sporting heroes in action at Headingley Carnegie.”
