Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s newest staff member John Fawcett is looking forward to getting started in his new community officer role working with over 30 schools across the city this year to inspire children and young people to take part in physical activity while delivering key health messages.
John, who holds a level 3 Personal Training qualification as well as a range of other coaching experience, will be overseeing the charity's school sports plan offer while also leading the Yorkshire Health Charity schools programme to promote health and well-being in 'out of school hour' sessions to Primary School children in Leeds.
As part of his role, John will deliver sessions during curriculum time as well as, extra provision including: breakfast clubs, after school clubs and holiday camps, allowing children to access positive activities in and out of curriculum time, whilst also supporting families as a result of the extended provision.
The 28-year-old, who is also a boot camp instructor for adult and children groups and coaches with Garforth Rangers AFC has also played squash for Yorkshire, bringing a unique skill set to the role as Community Manager for the Leeds Rhinos Foundation Gareth Cook explains:
"We are delighted that Jonathan has joined a growing department within the Leeds Rhinos Foundation. Jon has a different skill set to our coaches and hopefully can learn from them as well as up-skill them in other areas.
"The role undertaken will inspire children and young people to keep active and also lead a healthy lifestyle. I would like to welcome Jon and wish him all the best in the role."
The role will see John tasked with inspiring children and young people to take part in physical activity while delivering key health messages as part of his school and community delivery, something he is looking forward to bringing to the position:
“I'm really looking forward to getting involved with different schools and hoping to make a positive impact in the local community, helping children to develop skills and help them achieve a better way of life and well-being," said John.
