With Children’s Day 2017 fast approaching Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Yorkshire Cricket Foundation are looking forward to welcoming families from across the region to Headingley Carnegie Stadium for a day of child friendly activities and although the event is free, voluntary donations on the gate will be welcomed with funds raised supporting both charity’s community based initiatives
Leeds Rhinos Foundation, established in 2005 has grown into one of the largest not-for-profit sports charities in the country, comprising over 30 staff who deliver community programmes under the banners of health, education, sport, culture and heritage.
The charity work with schools, clubs and a range of partners across Leeds with the aim to change lives through sport and by donating at Children’s Day you will allow the charity to continue it’s work with over 30,000 people in the local community.
Leeds Rhinos’ official charity:
- Tackle the issue of reoffending through our second chance 'Onside' project with offenders at two local prisons
- Help adults to make positive health changes with our Try Club Men's Health Programme
- Support cancer patients through our free Cancer Rehabilitation Course
- Work with rugby clubs across the city to promote the development of the game via our successful Ambassador Scheme
- Encourage more people to play the game and support the development of players and coaches through our Rugby League Development Plan
- Support schools across the city by delivering over 5000 hours of coaching to over 18,000 children
- Provide over 1300 children from Community Clubs and Schools to enjoy an unforgettable experience by taking part in Leeds Rhinos game day activity on the pitch
- Help to support victims of domestic violence and human trafficking through our ESOL, Education and Work Club projects
- Provide early intervention schemes such as Attend and Achieve and Inspiring Champions in schools to help give all children an equal chance to succeed
- Make sport accessible for all through our work in Specialist Inclusive Learning Centres
- Work with young people not in education, employment or training to get back into work through our Off the Bench Education Projects
- Support people living with Dementia through our In-Touch Club
- Engage over 60s in a weekly Active Social group with age appropriate taster activity sessions
As charity partner for Children’s Day, Yorkshire Cricket Foundation will also benefit from any voluntary donations on the 16th July which supports the charity’s county-wide delivery across Yorkshire.
Yorkshire Cricket’s official charity delivers community projects using the power of cricket, with the aim to make a lasting, positive impact on the lives of those living in Yorkshire.
The YCF works closely with The Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the Yorkshire Cricket Board to maximise the opportunities available for everyone to learn, participate and benefit from sport under the five core themes of education, health & wellbeing, history & heritage, participation and inclusion
Yorkshire Cricket have provided a wealth of opportunities for the Yorkshire community such as:
- Engagement with 78 primary and secondary schools
- Working with 9 students from Leeds Beckett and Leeds Trinity Universities providing dissertation interviews and mentoring students
- Opportunity for over 2500 children to play cricket on the Headingley outfield
- A school's ticket offer which saw 910 children watch the England vs Sri Lanka Test Match
- 20 schools and 568 children taking part in the annual Education Day
- 522 Coaching hours delivered for 3318 attendees across Yorkshire with ENJOY CRICKET
- A behind the Scenes tour of Headingley Cricket Ground for 246 people
- Volunteering opportunities for 72 Yorkies on Major Match Days
- B.M.E. Development centres across Leeds and Bradford attended by 1400 children
- Regular cricket activities with Bradford West for 320 girls
- The Yorkshire Social Club which works with men and women over the age of 50 who are at risk of social isolation, poor mental health or living with dementia.
- The YCF Running Club for 15 regular members.
Children's Day 2017 takes place on Sunday 16th July. The gates for the event will open at 10am and close at 4pm; admission is completely free for everyone, as are the activities when inside the ground.
Families attending the event can make a suggested donation of £3 per adult and £1 per child attending on entry, all proceeds will support the work of Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Yorkshire Cricket Foundation.
