Leeds Rhinos Foundation Director of Operations Bob Bowman has praised the generosity of the Leeds public as he reached the 22k total from his 15 in 15 marathon challenge
Bob, who completed 13 of his 15 marathons after picking up an injury for marathon nine of the initial Brathay 10 in 10 event, managed to find extra reserves to complete a final five marathons on route to Headingley Carnegie Stadium, where he was greeted by Leeds Rhinos fans on the night on the 26th May.
With a combined total coming from bucket collections on the night, along with a flurry of donations to Bob’s Text Donate service and My Donate page, overall funds raised reached the £22,000 mark this week.
Bowman said he has been overwhelmed by the support he has received throughout the challenge:
“It has been amazing to see the donations coming in from people in all walks of life to catapult the total to over £22,000 in support of Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Brathay Trust this week.
“When I set out on the challenge I targeted £25,000 but to come anywhere close to that figure I have to say I am extremely grateful for people’s generosity and support and I hope if we have some more donations still coming in, we might hit my initial target.”
Completing over 340 miles during the 15 days, Bob returned to his regular role as Director of Leeds Rhinos’ official charity this week, who through their partnership with Brathay children’s charity can now put more programmes in place to change the lives of young vulnerable people in the city.
“The challenge was easily the hardest thing I have had to do in my lifetime and it’s been nice to have some recovery time to let my injuries settle down since the final marathon last week but it is nothing compared to some of the challenges young people face each and every day of their lives in the city, so I ask anybody who would still like to support this work to donate and help as many people as possible,” added Bowman.
