Leeds Rhinos Foundation and their key partners Mears are giving children from Leeds a chance to visit the iconic Wembley Stadium to watch Leeds Rhinos take on Hull KR in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Final on 29th August.
The official charity of Leeds Rhinos has received a donation from Mears Group, which will allow 150 children who live in the care of the local authority, the opportunity to travel to London to see the Rhinos in action as they to retain the famous Challenge Cup trophy.
Leeds Rhinos Foundation were awarded the Best Overall Contributor in the Child Friendly Leeds awards earlier this year for their commitment to helping improve the lives of young people across the city and the charity say they are happy to be able to extend this work further by offering children this unique, life enhancing trip.
Speaking about the Wembley excursion, Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Partnership Manager, Dan Busfield said: "The Rhinos making it to the Challenge Cup final is a massive occasion for the city to celebrate and so we are delighted that we are able to help these children and their carers share in what will be an unforgettable experience at Wembley.
"This trip has been made possible because of our partners Mears, whose vision is make a positive difference to the communities they serve and make people smile, and this donation has certainly achieved that.”
Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, Leeds City Council’s executive member responsible for children and families said: "We are very grateful for the support the Leeds Rhinos Foundation has shown to some of the most vulnerable children in our city, and for their ongoing commitment to making Leeds a child friendly city. I am sure the looked after children and their carers will have a fantastic time at the Challenge Cup Final and hopefully help cheer the Rhinos to another victory!”
