TryZone completed their summer activity programme with a family trip to Scarborough. As done previously TryZone invited families and adults that have accessed the centre throughout the term the chance to get out and have a day at the seaside.
This year there were families from different projects and a number of adult learners. The trip aims to give families and individuals new experiences and the chance for social/family time. The individuals have the day to do as they please, with the TryZone team meeting at a set time for fun and sports on the beach if individuals wanted to participate.
Leeds Rhinos Foundation believe the opportunity for people to experience new things broadens their comfort zone. From speaking to a number of parents of the young people that attended TryZone they said they had taken up watching rugby league thanks to the opportunity to attend a game earlier in the year.
The adult learners seemed to enjoy the day just as much and even braved the water and went swimming. A few wanted to tell us about their experience:
“I travelled to Scarborough with a lovely team, it was my first visit to the town and my first ever visit to the seaside. I really enjoyed it. We ate lunch in the park, swam in the sea, went on the rides at the Pleasure Beach and played rugby on the beach.”
“I enjoyed sitting in the sun eating lunch with the friends I have made at TryZone. We were very happy.”
“What I remember most is the beautiful castle we visited and the lovely views of Scarborough and the sea form the castle.”
Although the day was enjoyed by all it didn’t go fully to plan as the coach decided to overheat on the way home. This resulted in us waiting for a replacement; playing eye spy over the microphone; doing exercise at the side of the bus and even learning some contemporary dance.

The TryZone Centre is set to expand in the near future with new and exciting projects.
