40 community players will once again benefit from Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Outdoor Adventure programme supported by Geoff and Gill Caplan during February half term experiencing an overnight residential at local outdoor activity centre Herd Farm.
Working with the under 12 age group from clubs in Leeds Rhinos Ambassador Scheme, the programme will see clubs nominate players to attend who would benefit most from the experience, such as, players with low self-esteem, those that could benefit from role modelling, players who wouldn't otherwise get the chance to experience outdoor adventure or players rewarded for their efforts during the season.
Over three days at the centre, players get to experience a range of on-site activities including archery, assault courses, a giant swing activity and body zorbs as well as a night walk and camp fire activity led by staff from the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Herd Farm Activity centre.
Community Clubs Development Officer Sam Horner said:
“We have run a residential for community players for over 7 years now with support from Geoff and Gill Caplan providing a really valuable experience for young players in the city.
“Clubs select players based on different criteria from players needing to build their confidence to rewarding players for their efforts over the season but with all players mixing and working together with the activities on offer everybody gets plenty out of the experience.”
Long term programme supporter Geoff Caplan said:
“We are delighted to once again support Leeds Rhinos Foundation through the Outdoor Adventure programme which enhances the lives of young rugby league players in the city through the great work of Sam Horner and his team.
“We have always been keen to support the core community values of the sport and especially the grassroots game in Leeds, and this programme has a proven track record in offering an outstanding personal development opportunity for the participants.”
