New clubs welcomed into Club Ambassador Scheme

Ambassador Clubs benefit from their close ties with the Rhinos and get to be part of the match day experience at Headingley Carnegie

Emley Moor, LS27 Spartans and West Yorkshire Wolves have become the latest community clubs to join the Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Club Ambassador Scheme.

The Ambassador scheme is at the heart of Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Rugby League Development plan, sponsored by Mears, which aims to improve standards and increase participation.

Members of the Ambassador scheme meet up once a month and receive a number of benefits such as Coach Education, rugby events, matchday experiences at Leeds Rhinos games, rewards to raise funds, cashback on Rhinos season memberships, player appearances and support with growing their player base at all age groups.

Community club development officer, Sam Horner, welcomed the three community clubs on board. “It is fantastic to see these clubs become part of Ambassador Scheme, which continues to go from strength to strength.  When we launched eight years ago we had 12 affiliated clubs and now we have 35.

“The scheme enables clubs to share good practises and receive the benefits we can offer such as coaching sessions, support with recruitment and the opportunity for their players to play at Headingley Carnegie."

The close links Leeds Rhinos Foundation now has with the clubs ensures that they are able to offer support as required and enables the community clubs to have a voice in the future of the game in the city and wider areas.

“The Ambassador scheme is about community clubs coming together in the interests of developing our game." added Horner.  "There have many positive outcomes because of these closer ties such as being part of a network of clubs that share good practice. Creating and being part of new Rugby League events and programmes, access to professional advice and coaching and aces to educational programmes, upskilling members and players alike. As a charity we are there to support the community clubs, who are so important to our game, and help them to grow and attract new players.

“The idea for our annual Dick Gibson Club Ambassadors Festival of Rugby League came from our club ambassadors who wanted the event.  It is a great example of the game in the city coming together to put on a fantastic event for young players in our community.”
