North Leeds Leopards host City tag rugby tournament

The Leeds Rhinos Foundation ran the qualifying rounds of the city tag rugby tournament for the Leeds North East Sports Partnership in partnership with Sainsbury’s Schools Games, with a total of 14 teams in attendance at North Leeds Leopards JRLFC yesterday

North Leeds Leopards JRLFC hosted the qualifying rounds of the Leeds city tag tournament for the Leeds North East Sports Partnershi with staff from the Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

The event was ran in partnership with School Games Organiser Chrisi Bennett to deliver the tournament with 14 the teams taking part, putting on a great display of rugby for all in attendance.
 
Staff from the Leeds Rhinos Foundation delivered a coaching carousel on the morning to teach the schools the rules and how to play tag rugby for the festival taking place the same day.

The matches in the afternoon were played in great spirit with the top four teams at the end of the day qualifying for the city finals, and the results going right down to the last round of fixtures. 

At the end of play four schools; Gledhow, Immaculate Heart, Richmond Hill and Weetwood progressed to the City Wide Tag Tournament Final, which will be based at the John Charles Centre for Sport in May. 
 
Leeds Rhinos Community Manager; Jonny Wainhouse commented: “This is a simple but effective way of engaging schools and children to get involved with their local community club. This event has enhanced the profile of the community club, the sport and more importantly the children have had a fantastic experience. All schools showed great enthusiasm, picking up the tag rugby format quickly to show some fantastic skills throughout the day”.
 
The Leeds Rhinos Foundation would like to say a massive thank you to the teachers who brought the children along to the event, North Leeds Leopards JRLFC for hosting the tournament and also Leeds Rhinos Academy players George Milton and Ben Frankland who spent the entire day supporting the event along with special guest, Leeds Rhinos star Kylie Leuluai who spent the afternoon at the tournament too cheering the children on!
