Students at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Seacroft were treated to a full day of dance coaching from Leeds Rhinos Foundation last week, as every year group at the school received a dance lesson from Dance Development Officer Nicola Booth.
To kick off the day, the entire school took part in a Leeds Rhinos 'Wake Up Shake Up' warm up routine to get ready for their day of dance delivery before all year groups at the school took part in an individual lesson based on their current curriculum.
Nicola Booth said:
"It’s been a really fun day at our Lady of Good Counsel today, each year group has been working on their own routine with the year 4s preparing for their competition as well and another year doing a dance based on an African theme."
The school recently came on board with Leeds Rhinos’ official charity as a Partner School committing premium P.E funds in return for designated coaches from Leeds Rhinos Foundation to work with the school to deliver dance, multi-skills and rugby lessons.
"Our Lady of Good Counsel Primary have been working with us for around three years now, so I’ve been coming into delivery dance and another officer from the Foundation has been coming in to teach rugby and multi skills, added Booth."
"This year they have come on board as a partner school but a dance focused partner school so they are having a whole term where they have a day of dance and every age group in the school gets to experience dance and they also receive coaching in rugby and multi skills as well."
Year 4 Class Teacher and Leader of Computing, PE and Growth Mindset at Our Lady's Primary Jonathan Gibbons commented on the partnership with Leeds Rhinos Foundation.
"We are immensely proud of the partnership we have developed with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation this year. Over the last few years, we have accessed different coaches for different elements of the PE curriculum. The quality of these sessions convinced us to become a partnership school. All the coaches that have visited this year and over the past 5 years have been extremely professional and hard working."
"Our children thoroughly enjoy the sessions and as the PE Coordinator, it is extremely rewarding to see all the children fully participating in the lessons. Having the entire school in the hall today was amazing! The atmosphere was brilliant and it was extremely very enjoyable to watch and be a part of," added Mr Gibbons.
