The Leeds Rhinos Foundation have officially launched their new Primary School Stadium Tours available for up to 30 children to enjoy a special educational tour of the famous grounds at Headingley Carnegie Stadium
The new tour has been re-designed following the success of the “Business Behind the Rhinos” Tour. It aims to provide an interactive experience and gives children the chance to get involved on the day.
The tour provides a behind the scenes look at the professional careers of Rugby League players with a focus on the link between sport and education, including the key elements of respect, attendance, teamwork, discipline and confidence.
There is the chance to step in the players' footsteps with a tour of the pre-match facilities and the dressing room, learning from Conditioning Coach Jason Davidson and Head Coach Brian McDermott through a special video message.
The children then get to meet Ronnie the Rhino, who leads them through the match day tunnel routine, emerging from the North Stand onto the pitch side, learning more history about the ground and taking part in the Rhinos song, 'Marching on Together.'
An interactive element of the tour also takes a look at the media side of a match day with the children getting the chance to take part in the post-match press conference. This will be a chance to experience what it would be like face the media, sitting in the press room where players and head-coach Brian McDermott would take interviews after games in a mock press conference.
Leeds Rhinos stars Joel Moon and Kallum Watkins launched the tours and Joel commented:
"It’s fantastic for children to be able to come and experience what happens behind the scenes here at Headingley Carnegie Stadium, the new tour looks really interactive and exciting.”
The launch follows a series of successful trial tours and Leeds Rhinos Foundation School Ambassador Manager, Lisa McCann, who has put together the tour for schools said:
“It is fantastic that the tours are now at a stage where we can offer them to all of our schools. It was exciting planning the tour so it is nice to see the final product. Special thanks must go to Lynn Edwards and her team who give their time up to run the tours, without them we wouldn’t be able to offer this experience to children.”
The tours will be offered to our Ambassador and Partner Schools, which will further strengthen the Foundation's commitment to schools and to changing lives through sport.
The tours are already booking up fast for end of term trips and are available to school groups of up to 30 children per tour. The tours last approximately 2 hours and will be priced at £100 for the group.
