On Easter Monday children are invited to take part in a special junior skills session with Rhinos legend Chev Walker on the pitch at Headingley Carnegie Stadium ahead of the Rhinos game against Widnes Vikings.
The game has a family day theme and there will be lots of activities around the ground for all the family, including a performance from chart toppers, Union J.
The skills session will be led by Walker, a Grand Final and World Club Challenge winner with the Rhinos and former England international, who recently re-joined the club to lead a new initiative to identify and recruit talented athletes from high schools into Rugby League.
The session is open to children in school year two and is an extension of Leeds Rhinos Foundation's work in schools across the city. Through their Sky Try programme the charity delivers coaching courses to children aged 6 and 7 with the mission to get more children playing the sport and providing a link to club rugby by holding taster sessions in local community clubs.
"Playing on the pitch at Headingley Carnegie Stadium is something children will remember for the rest of their lives,” said Walker. “We hope these mini skills sessions will be fun and give children a flavour of what a great game rugby league is to play. All children are welcome, so even if they have never tried rugby league before, this is the perfect opportunity to give it a try."
The skills session is open to all children attending the Rhinos v Widnes game who are in year 2. Advance tickets for the game start £10 for Juniors and £20 for adults and the skills session is free.
