Rhinos Challenge Day 2 Competition Roundup

The final day of Rhinos Challenge 2015 saw some more entertaining Rugby League and teams involved to the end of the final day in either league or Cup knockout competitions before our winners were invited on stage to collect their well-earned trophies.

Leeds Rhinos stars Tom Briscoe and Jamie Jones-Buchanan were on hand to present both individual and team trophies to the tour clubs in the spectacular presentation ceremony capping off a fantastic two days of Rugby League on the Lincolnshire Coast.

The festival played over 11 pitches and incorporating age groups from under 8s to under 14s provided a competition element over the two days with league round robins spread over the weekend and for the under 8s, 9s, 10s, 11s and 14s a series of knockout Cup, Shield, Plate and Bowl trophies.

In the Under 14’s age group West Hull were convincing winners in the main cup completion going unbeaten all weekend and winning the final against Waterhead Warriors 6-1 with Oulton Raiders winning the Shield competition after finishing third in the group stages and 4th place group stage finishers Skirluagh Bulls ‘B’ winning Bowl.

Dewsbury Moor won the league trophy ahead of six other teams in the under 13s category, completing a clean sweep of six wins and edging out second placed Doncaster Toll Bar ‘B’ 4-2 in the two sides fixture which turned out to be the decider with Toll Bar winning all of the other five games.

In the hard fought under 12s category, West Bowling edged out Wetherby Bulldogs to capture the league trophy in the format that saw each of the five teams play each other twice. The two sides traded 2-1 wins against each other in group which proved to be a well contested age group with Skirlaugh Bulls finishing third to Wetherby on points difference.

St Helens based Thatto Heath Crusaders were overall cup winner in the under 11s group, claiming a 4-3 close victory against Milford Marlins in the final with Sussex Merlins finishing third in their first Rhinos Challenge experience.

In the under 11s Shield, Dewsbury Moor claimed a 1-0 victory over Birkenshaw Juniors and in the bowl competition for 5th and 6th placed teams West Hull beat Leeds Irish Clovers to book a place on the winners stage on Sunday.

Under 10’s action saw Rylands Sharks and Birstall Victoria victorious in the Cup and Shield competitions against West Hull and Dearne Valley Bulldogs. Birstall Victoria finished third in the league groups and duly followed up with a wins against Leeds Irish Clovers and Dearne Valley in the final winning 2-0 in the final where overall winners maintained a 100% record to win the cup final in style with a 3-1 win.

The under 9s tournament consisting of 16 teams in three groups, saw Blackbrook Royals win the main cup competition, coming out on top with a 3-2 win over Hull Wyke in the final, the St Helens club also held a perfect record over the two days winning all six of their games.

Thornhill Trojans ‘A’ were eventual winners in the Shield competition against West Bowling in the final with a 3-2 win, while Dearne Valley Bulldogs came out on top against Rylands Tiger Sharks to claim the Claim the Bowl Competition. In the Plate competition, the final was decided by a 3-1 win for Dewsbury Moor over Golborn Parkside Pirates to end a busy two of fixtures and competition in the under 9s category.

The youngest age group taking part in the weekend, the under 8’s category saw Rylands Skarks take home the main cup final trophy winning 4-3 against Clock Face Minors. Birkenshaw Juniors were also 4-3 victors in their Shield final against Birstall Victoria ‘A’ while Milford Marlins claimed the Bowl final with another high scoring 4-2 win over Birstall Victoria ‘B’.
