Leeds Rhinos captain Danny McGuire will be joined by his team mates Jamie Jones-Buchannan, Carl Ablett and Ryan Hall at the UK’s biggest Rugby League camp for junior teams this weekend (14th – 15th May) at Butlins Skegness.
Rhinos Challenge, which is an annual event run in partnership with Leeds Rhinos Foundation and ESF Events, involves junior teams from as far as Essex, Cumbria and Tyne and Wear coming together to compete in a unique Rugby League experience.
This year will be the biggest Rhinos Challenge to date, with 160 teams from under-8s to under-14s competing in the two-day tournament and over 6000 people expected to visit Butlins to be part of this spectacular junior rugby event.
The Rhinos quartet, who all played for community clubs in Leeds, will be visiting the two-day event to meet the players and offer their support for the tournament which aims to benefit the development of junior rugby.
Looking ahead to Rhinos Challenge McGuire said: “The Rhinos Challenge is now a huge occasion for community clubs across the country and I have heard so many positive stories from teams who have taken part in it. Going on tour as a young player is great for morale and team spirit and it will be a memorable occasion for both them and their families. I know many clubs have been working hard to fundraise to be able to take their teams on this tour and I think will be an amazing experience for them. It is great to see teams from all over the country getting the chance to play against one another and enjoy our wonderful sport.”
All tournament players and spectators are able to enjoy the tour experience, by staying in the accommodation at the award winning Butlins resort in Skegness. The weekend will end with a presentation event show, when every player from the festival will receive a participation medal.
Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s support of Rhinos Challenge, is part of the charity’s Rugby League Development Plan, which aims to increase participation and improve standards in this game.
