Leeds Rhinos star Josh Walters recently joined staff from Leeds Rhinos Foundation for a special Rhinos Takeover Day at Little London Community Primary School.
The Rhinos Takeover Days are offered to Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Ambassador Schools with support from Caddick and Cover Structure. The day involves the whole school, who get the opportunity to have sports coaching from Leeds Rhinos Foundation staff, a Rhinos themed assembly and a dance workshop. The pupils are then invited to a Rhinos game where they take part in a half time pitch parade.
Walters, who was a try scorer in the Rhinos Grand Final win in 2015, helped out with the event and even got involved with the Rhinos Wake Up Shake Up dance routine to get the day started.
Speaking about the supporting the day Walters said: “The work Leeds Rhinos Foundation do in schools is great and all the players are happy to support days like this when we can. It is just a small part of what we can do to help them. I had a great time at Little London, the children were well behaved and it was good to see them smiling and having a good time and hopefully we will see them at a future Rhinos game.”
Mrs Wood, Head Teacher at Little London Community Primary School added: “We have had a relationship with the Rhinos ever since Leeds Rhinos Foundation have been offering these days schools and it’s a day we look forward to every year. The whole school is involved which is what we particularly like. We have a lot of energy as a school anyway, but the fact you bring in professional players in, the coaches, such as Tom Exley who works with us, are all fantastic with the children. There are great relationships and presence and that’s the key thing for me. We love it.”
