Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s runners and walkers who took part in charity race events in 2015 have raised over £15,000 to support the work of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
The year consisting of three charity runs, including a 10k, half and full marathon, saw people from all backgrounds and abilities joining the Leeds Rhinos Foundation team of fundraisers to reach the total sponsorship amount.
To kick off the years’ calendar of running events, 11 runners made up of Foundation staff and Leeds Rhinos fans took to the streets of Leeds for the PlusNet Leeds Half Marathon on May 12th, taking on the 13.1 mile course with over 7,000 other runners for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal Run for All organised event.
Two months later, the headliner event for the Run/Walk with the Rhinos 2015 programme saw over 100 fundraisers fill charity places for the Asda Foundation Leeds 10k on 12th July, joined by Leeds Rhinos legend Barrie McDermott and Chief Executive Gary Hetherington to take on the course.
Ten more runners then took on the PlusNet Yorkshire Marathon on 11th October around the Vale of York to cap off the 2015 Run/Walk with the Rhinos race calendar.
Fundraising and Events Coordinator for the Leeds Rhinos Foundation Jessica Bowman commented on the total raised in 2015:
“We are delighted to be able to announce such a fantastic total for fundraising this year from our Run/Walk with the Rhinos events. We have to extend a huge thank you to everyone who turned out for a race this year on our behalf and helped us achieve the total.
“We have individuals who joined us for all three distances and achieved a monumental personal fundraising total to add to the overall amount with lots of people achieving their fitness personal goals in the process, so it’s been a fantastic year on which we will look to build on in 2016.”
The Leeds Rhinos Foundation would like to say a big thank you to all of our runners this year and look forward to another great year in 2016.
Details of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation Run/Walk with the Rhinos programme of events for 2016 will be announced in the new year.
