Run/Walk with the Rhinos running duo gearing up for the PlusNet Marathon

Louise and Mark Fielder after the Leeds 10K in 2015

After the success of the Asda Foundation Leeds 10k on Sunday, Run/Walk with the Rhinos team members Mark and Louise Fielder are keeping their training ticking over in order to be ready for their next big challenge, the PlusNet Yorkshire Marathon on the 11th October

After completing three major distances over the last couple of months, husband and wife Mark and Louise Fielder are working towards their biggest challenge yet, with the PlusNet Yorkshire Marathon on the 11th October now less than three months away.

The pair are running to raise money for both the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Jane’s Appeal with the money raised from the PlusNet Leeds Half Marathon, the Eccup 10 mile race, Asda Foundation Leeds 10k and the PlusNet Yorkshire Marathon, all being donated to the two causes.

Mark and Louise crossed the line last Sunday in 1 hour and 19 minutes at the very popular Asda Foundation Leeds 10k, where they joined over 100 other Run/Walk with the Rhinos team members taking on the 6.2 mile course.

By completing the Marathon in October, the couple will have crossed off an extraordinary list of four distances over the summer, including both the 10 mile and 10 kilometre distances as well as, both a Marathon and Half Marathon.

Mark Fielder will be returning to run with the Rhinos at the Yorkshire Marathon for the second year running, finishing in 4 hours and 20 minutes at last year’s event, which inspired Louise to get involved and join her husband for the run in 2015.

Speaking after the Leeds 10k pre-race training session with Leeds Rhinos Strength and Conditioning Coach Chris Black, Mark commented:

“When I did it last year, it inspired Louise to run and she has carried it forward now and has got me running alongside her, so my training has changed and gone low tempo now and we are running together to complete the 26 miles in October.

“Louise has already done the half marathon and has the Eccup 10 next week, followed by the Leeds 10k after that and then hopefully if we can get around the marathon in 5 and a half hours, it’s job done!"

As long time Leeds Rhinos fans, Mark and Louise have always supported the club on and off the field and jumped at the chance to support the Leeds Rhinos’ official charity by fundraising for their events again this year – all to help support the Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s many projects in the Leeds community:

“We tied all four runs in to one and we are going to raise sponsorship money based on all four and we are targeting between £500 and a £1000 for the Rhinos Foundation and Jane’s Appeal. Like I’ve always said, if you are going to organise things like the Rhinos Challenge for all those kids in Skegness and it’s going to handy things like that, why not raise a few quid for the Foundation.” Mark added.

If you enjoyed being part of the team for the Leeds Half Marathon and Leeds 10k and would like to run the PlusNet Yorkshire Marathon with the Run/With the Rhinos, we still have some charity places available for the now sold out event on the 11th October.
