Leeds Rhinos Foundation partners with Urban Trail Runner Leeds Series

Leeds Rhinos stars Adam Cuthbertson and Joel Moon with Urban Trail Runners co-founders Gavin Longley and Nick Robinson

Leeds Rhinos stars Adam Cuthbertson and Joel Moon visited Roundhay Park in Leeds to launch a new partnership between the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and alternative running specialists Urban Trail Runner (UTR).

Leeds Rhinos Foundation will be the official charity partner for the Urban Trail Runner Leeds series in 2016 and as part of the partnership will be offering fundraising incentives to participants who opt to run individual races or the full series in support the charity.

Speaking about the new partnership Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Director of Operations, Bob Bowman said: “It is a truly exciting partnership that the Leeds Rhinos Foundation is entering into with Urban Trail Runner.

“Building on the huge success of our Run with the Rhinos initiative we all believe that many more people will gain the health benefits in training and then completing one, two or all three of the Urban Trail Runner 2016 series.

“The events are in picturesque and local locations and the added benefit of not pounding the tarmac! I will be doing all three races and I hope many people rise to the challenge and join me and in so doing support us in the projects we deliver in the communities of Leeds where our mission is to Change Lives Through Sport.”

Urban Trail Runner, devised in 2015, is an exciting concept which aims to share the unrivalled buzz of trail running through a series of easy to get to – tough to complete – trail races in parks and woods in city locations, creating an off-road running revolution in the process.

Each event is designed to make the excitement and enjoyment of trail running accessible to runners of all ages and abilities taking place through the summer months at three major parks around Leeds.

The Leeds Series consists of three 6-8 mile trail runs that take in beautiful and scenic routes starting at Temple Newsam on Wednesday 8th June and then Roundhay Park on Wednesday 13th July before the final race at Middleton Park on Sunday 21st August which starts and finishes at South Leeds Stadium.

Although the races can be entered individually, Urban Trail Runner is designed as a series of three races with times added together to calculate final times and placings with improved chip timings and route marking coming to the series in 2016.

Nick Robinson, Co-Founder of Urban Trail Runner said: “In 2016, the Leeds Summer Series will see us proudly partner with our official charity, the Leeds Rhinos Foundation, with the joint aim of changing lives through sport.

“The Leeds Rhinos Foundation does amazing work in the local community by promoting the benefits of sport and leading a healthy lifestyle to all, something UTR also feels very passionately about.

“The partnership will see a number of exciting new initiatives and fun additions to our previous UTR events and will help to make the Leeds Summer Series even better than last year.”

Leeds Rhinos player Adam Cuthbertson added:

"It’s great to lend support to this partnership that sees the Leeds Rhinos Foundation continue to inspire the community through promoting healthy lifestyles and regular exercise. The route here at Roundhay Park looks challenging but should be a lot of fun for the runners and I’m sure it’s the same at the other two venues in Leeds, so I’m sure there will be some good numbers turning out this summer.”
