On Saturday 23rd September, Leeds Rhinos Foundation will host a special afternoon at Headingley Carnegie Stadium to celebrate the achievements of their Ambassador Clubs over the last season.
The Celebration of Rugby League community clubs’ awards dinner, supported by One Call Building Solutions is now in its tenth year, and will bring together clubs from Leeds and beyond who form the Leeds Rhinos Foundation Ambassador Club family. The event will pay tribute to hard working coaches and volunteers who give up their time to support Rugby League at grassroots level and develop new players.
Sam Horner, Community Clubs Development Officer at Leeds Rhinos Foundation, said: “This is an important event in the Rugby League calendar as it recognises the contribution that the entire Rugby League community makes to the success and growth of our game.
“We now have 38 Ambassador Clubs affiliated with our charity and through this scheme we have been able to nurture superb working relationships that we believe has helped to strengthen the game and bring community clubs closer to the Leeds Rhinos club.
“The Leeds Rhinos teams is proud that so many of their players have come from local clubs and the outstanding work that community coaches do with players during their formative years plays a vital role in making that happen. We would like to thank Colin and Cath Smith from One Call Building Solutions for supporting this event.”
Awards on the night will include the John Ahm Lifetime Achievement Award and the John Holmes Memorial Award. Twenty of the Ambassador Clubs will also hand out individual awards to members of their clubs.
“It’s been an outstanding year for our Club Ambassador scheme,” added Horner. “Some of the highlights have included the successful Ambassador Festival, which this year took place across two weekends for the first time so more children could be involved. The Coach Education programme, delivered by Rhinos first team coaches, has continued to engage with more coaches and help them develop their skills and knowledge to pass on to their players back at their clubs. We have also seen hundreds of children get the chance to run out onto the pitch on a Rhinos match night, which is something Leeds Rhinos Foundation are very proud of.”
The Celebration dinner will be attended by Rhinos players Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Rob Burrow, Liam Sutcliffe and Jordan Lilley and many other special guests including past players from Bramley, Dewsbury and Hunslet.
The dinner will take place in the Lewis Jones Suite at Headingley Carnegie Stadium between 2pm-6pm. For more information on the dinner contact sam.horner@leedsrhinosfoundation.org
