The first ‘Rhinos Takeover Day’ has taken place today (02 February) at Gledhow Primary School in Leeds. The school received a blue and amber makeover by the Leeds Rhinos Foundation charity and welcomed special guests Brian McDermott, Danny McGuire and Ronnie the Rhino.
The school on Lidgett Lane was transformed with balloons, banners and inflatables, the children took part in multi-skills and tag rugby coaching sessions delivered by Leeds Rhinos Foundation coaching staff. The day began with an assembly, which looked at the success of the treble winning Leeds Rhinos team in 2015 and children got the chance to ask questions to the Rhinos Head Coach and captain.
Davide Longo, general manager of Leeds Rhinos Foundation said: “I’d like to thank our charity key partners, Caddick Construction and Cover Structure. With their support, our ambition is to ensure that the incredible success of the Leeds Rhinos team over the last decade has a lasting legacy in schools.”
Debbie Watson, Marketing Manager at Caddick Construction, comments: “Seeing the Takeover Day in action was a fabulous experience. Caddick Construction is delighted to be a key partner of the charity and I look forward to visiting more schools around Leeds.”
Stephen Archer, head teacher at Gledhow Primary School, said: “Today has been a tremendous experience for the children of Gledhow Primary. Many of the Rhinos players are local to Leeds and they are great role models for the children and we hope their story will help inspire a new generation of players and supporters from our school.”
Following the takeover day in schools, every child and their parent will be offered a match day ticket at a reduced price and invited to take part in a half time pitch parade in front of thousands of fans at Headingley Carnegie Stadium. Gledhow Primary School students will attend the Warrington match this Thursday.
