Two sisters from Nepal who have been attending the Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s TryZone education centre collected their GCSE maths results on Thursday.
The sisters, who only started studying for the GCSE in February 2015, did extremely well considering they were studying maths in their second language. In this instance the younger of the two sisters, Albina, out performed her older sister Manisha when she achieved a grade A.
The sisters initially came to TryZone to get support with job seeking and although both girls had good qualifications were struggling to get past the application stage. Jaci Hawkins who runs the Work Club and tutored the girls ready for the exam said: “Albina and Manisha are both very intelligent young ladies who just need that something extra on their CVs. Being able to study and pass GCSE maths in their second language, will hopefully give potential employers the confidence to at least short-list the girls for an interview”
