The Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Leeds Public Health are launching a free weekly fitness programme led by former Rhinos player and First Team Conditioner Ian Kirke over the winter period at the home of Leeds Rhinos to help fans get active
The ‘Rhinos Winter Warm Up’ programme, starting on the 13th December, will be delivered by former Leeds Rhinos player and current first team Conditioner Ian Kirke, at Leeds Rugby Academy in Kirkstall.
The sessions will utilise the training ground’s all-weather facilities to provide an all-round outdoor fitness session suitable for people of all shapes and sizes (ages 16+)
Planned in partnership with the Leeds City Council Active Lifestyle Team, the sessions will provide an introduction to a range of physical activities that will complement the existing programme of community activities currently on offer around the city.
Working with Leeds Public Health, Leeds Rhinos Foundation identified an area of need within the Leeds community for an increased awareness of the benefits of physical activity and maintenance of an active lifestyle to help combat common health problems linked to inactivity.
The programme which will run weekly on Sundays from 1pm to 2:30pm for an eight week period has been devised by Health Improvement Officer for the Leeds Rhinos Foundation Stephen Turrell who commented:
“Working with Public Health we have identified a need to facilitate more alternative provision for people to become more active in the community through, not only access to high quality physical activity, but through access to services and key information regarding health and wellbeing.
“As a sports related charity we have an obligation to utilise the appeal of the Leeds Rhinos by promoting key health messages in compliance with the local council and our programme will follow on from some successes we have had previously working with Leeds Public Health.
“We are encouraging people of all activity levels and experience to come along, learn some different ways to improve their fitness and ultimately get better educated about the health benefits of regular exercise as well as, what quality provision is on offer in the city of Leeds.”
Sessions dates are as follows:
13/12/15
20/12/15
03/01/16
10/01/16
17/01/16
