The Leeds Rhinos Foundation ran their first Ladies only BOX class at Fairfield Community Centre last week, seeing eight women in attendance for the weekly session that will run every Thursday until the 26th March
The first BOX sessions started on the 27th January at Leeds Sports Centre, followed by further sessions at West Leeds Rugby Club, The Dennis Healey Centre, Headingley Carnegie Café and Rodley Church Hall, before the first women's only BOX session at Fairfield Community Centre taking place last Thursday.
The session was taken by Health Improvement Practitioner for The Office of the Director of Public Health and part-time fitness instructor, Tina Leslie who commented on what the BOX sessions consist of:
"The session entails a warm up and some mobility to get your heart rate raised then, different elements of boxing moves mixed up with aerobic exercises (squats, lunges, toning, tummies (floor work) as well as, some boxing with partners to get to know new people.
"The session is aimed at every ability and aims to be fun and enjoyable, as participant's progress we can increase the intensity of the sessions but still offer alternatives for newcomers." Tina said.
The centre, located in Bramley, West Leeds provides the venue for both the ladies only session and a mixed session that runs straight afterwards, all ran an organised by the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and its team of qualified BOX instructors.
BOX fitness is designed to provide an overall balanced body workout for an hour long session. The programme is ideal for anyone wanting to improve their general fitness in a fun and interactive environment and is suited to people of all abilities and levels of experience.
All BOX classes run weekly until the end of March and are available free of charge at the 6 designated venues across the city, in the initial 8 week programme.
One of the Fairfield Community Centre attendees commented:
"I really enjoyed the session, I don't do any exercise but this was fun and I felt good after the session.
"I didn't know what to expect from BOX but this was great a bit of everything."
The next sessions at Fairfield Community Centre runs tonight (12th February) from 6pm-7pm (Ladies session only) and 7pm-8pm (mixed gender) and will include a visit from Leeds Rhinos Star Brett Delaney and Rhinos Legend and qualified BOX instructor Keith Senior.
