Jamie Peacock joins this year’s Run with the Rhinos team

Mike Tomlinson CEO of Run for All joined Jamie Peacock for the launch of Run with the Rhinos

Leeds Rhinos Foundation have officially launched their Run with the Rhinos team for this year’s Asda Foundation Leeds 10K and have announced that Leeds Rhinos legend Jamie Peacock MBE will be part of their team for the run which takes place on 12th July.

The former England captain, who this year will retire from playing Rugby League, will be walking the 10K race with his family and is hoping to recruit fans to join him by either running or walking the route to raise money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and the Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

The Run with the Rhinos is inclusive for people of all abilities, whether they are competitive runners or social walkers and they will be able to join the likes of Ronnie the Rhino, former Leeds Rhinos players Keith Senior and Barrie McDermott and Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis, who will once again represent the official charity of Leeds Rhinos.   There will be plenty of fun along the course including the Leeds Rhinos Spencer Properties dance team encouraging runners on the way at cheer stations.

As a member of the Run with the Rhinos team runners will receive: a special designed t-shirt, a pre- race training session with Leeds Rhinos first team conditioner Chris Black and a post- event breakfast celebration with friends and family.

All money raised from the Run with the Rhinos team will be split between the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and the Leeds Rhinos Foundation, to help them with their delivery of sport, health and education projects which aim to change the lives of thousands of people in the Leeds community.

Commenting on his involvement with Run with the Rhinos, Peacock said: "I would urge as many people as possible to sign up and join me on the 12th July to run or walk the Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10k. In doing so you will be benefitting two great charities, the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the Jane Tomlinson appeal.  In my final season playing for the Rhinos it will be great to be part of the Run with the Rhinos team and to meet many supporters who have cheered me and my team mates on over the years. Jane Tomlinson was a truly inspirational woman and I am delighted to be a part of this massive event for the city, see you there!”

Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s Director of Operations added: "In the year that the Leeds Rhinos Foundation celebrates its ten year anniversary it is worth reflecting on what has been some of our most impactive projects. Without a doubt the Run with the Rhinos is now one of our highest profile events. It is a pleasure to see all the people who sign up to raise money for two wonderful causes arrive before the 10K starts proudly wearing their unique running top.  Each year we hear many inspirational stories of how the event has truly changed their lives.  All of us at the Leeds Rhinos Foundation are honoured to partner up with the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and it was wonderful to hear recently that Jane’s legacy has raised 7.6 million for many worthy charities.  Jamie Peacock MBE will be taking part this year so if you want to run or walk with a true legend of the Rhinos and Rugby League then sign up as quick as you can."

Run For All's CEO, Mike Tomlinson said: “This is about the 5th year now and it’s fantastic, it’s a great partnership where we can see working together proves to be more effective and successful than apart.

“The sheer number of entrants this year again from the Rhinos probably says two things; firstly that Jane’s appeal is going from strength to strength but also says something about the Rhinos and their impact in the community of Leeds and all the work they do, so it’s probably testament to both charities and organisations”
