Former Leeds Rhinos and England captain, Kevin Sinfield MBE, is set to represent the Rhinos again when he takes on the Asda Foundation Leeds 10K as part of the Run with the Rhinos team.
Sinfield, who is the most successful captain in the club’s history and was runner up in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2015 after winning seven Grand Finals, three World Club Challenges and two Challenge Cups over his twenty-year career, will participate in the Leeds 10K for the first time, having announced his retirement from professional rugby this year.
Sir Kev, as he is known to Rhinos fans, will be running on behalf of the club’s official charity, Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and he is inviting Rhinos fans to join him on Sunday 10th July.
Speaking about joining the Run with the Rhinos team, Sinfield said: “I am really looking forward to giving the Leeds 10K a go this year. I am a Vice President of Leeds Rhinos Foundation so it is a charity I am very passionate about. They have a great team who are dedicated to improving the lives of the people they work with across Leeds and the money raised from this event will help fund that.
“The Leeds 10K celebrates its tenth anniversary this year and its success is a wonderful legacy to Jane Tomlinson CBE, who set up the race back in 2007. Jane was an inspirational athlete and I am proud to be doing this race and also raising money for her charity, the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, which supports children's and cancer charities.
“I hope many people will join me in the Run with the Rhinos team and raise as much money as possible for these two worthwhile causes.”
Leeds Rhinos Foundation’s events and fundraising officer Jessica Bowman added: “We are thrilled that Kevin Sinfield MBE has agreed to lead our Run with the Rhinos team this year. Kevin is a Rugby League legend and a terrific supporter of our charity so it is a huge honour to have him represent us. I am sure Rhinos fans would love the chance to say they have been on the same team as Kevin Sinfield; well this is their chance!
“The Asda Foundation Leeds 10K is an event for people of all abilities. So whether you choose to run, walk or jog, all you need to join in is some determination and team spirit and on Sunday 10th July, can be running the city centre course, alongside Sir Kev, as a proud member of the Run with the Rhinos team.”
Entry for the Run with the Rhinos team is £30 and there are plenty of fundraising incentives for those taking part, including an invitation to a Leeds Rhinos Foundation dinner, an exclusive pre-race fitness session and match tickets. Monies raised will be split equally between the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
