Further & Higher Education Development Officer Russell Parker’s Leeds City College team made it five wins in a row with a hard fought 30-16 win in their latest Yorkshire Colleges Division 1 tie against Hull FC Foundation college, keeping the team in 4th with a crucial game against Huddersfield College next week
The home tie at Leeds Rugby Academy pitted fourth against sixth in the penultimate fixture of the campaign with Leeds City College hoping to make it five wins in a row after a win in their last hit-out over a month ago against Leeds College of Building.
It was Hull FC Foundation College who started the liveliest benefiting from the home side's indiscipline and poor ball control in the opening stanza and the visitors continued to grow in confidence during the half to take a deserved 6 – 16 points lead going into the break.
Leeds City College were facing their first loss in four games heading into the second half and came out in the second half with a renewed enthusiasm and levelled the scores through two tries from prop forward Jamaine Ruan.
With the scores level going into the final 20 minutes, thee eventual game breaker came when Leeds City College's Jack Carroll read the Hull attack and intercepted from the halfway line to sprint home and puts his side in front for the first time.
Powerful tries from Ousman Sanneh and Thomas Hutchinson then added some emphasis for Leeds City College who secured the win to make it five consecutive league wins.
Final score 30-16.
Leeds City College play their final fixture of the year at New Hey Road in Huddersfield against second placed Huddersfield New College with a win securing third place in the standings.
