Leeds City College win second game in a row on the road at St Mary’s

Leeds City College in action against St Mary's

Leeds Rhinos Foundation Further & Higher Education Development Officer Russell Parker’s Leeds City College side recorded their second win in two games with a 38-18 comeback win against St Mary’s in the North East Colleges Division 1 Competition.

Leeds City College travelled to Hull for the second time in as many weeks, looking to continue their winning ways but had to work hard to claim their second away win of the season after being behind at half time to the home side.

St Mary’s dominated the early exchanges and deservedly took a two try lead before Hussain replied for the Leeds outfit after some good build up play from Selby.

The game then witnessed a wonderful solo effort from the jinking Luke Brown, converted again by Taylor before the first half was concluded with a long range try from St Mary’s, who will be disappointed to have wasted a number of chances to further increase their 14-12 half time lead.

It was a different story in the second half as Leeds City College began to expose the home team’s defence. Winfield crossed for Leeds, followed by a try from the physical Hussain to take a 14-24 advantage.

Leeds maintained their stranglehold, posting late tries from Boafo and Hussain, who completed his hat trick on the day, which was enough to secure the win despite a late St Mary’s try with the final play of the game.

The college are next in action this Wednesday (9th November) against at home to Kirklees College.

Star Men: Ben Selby & Hassan Hussain
Final score: – St Mary's Hull 18 – Leeds City College 38
