What's on this week?

Another week is here and the Leeds Rhinos Foundation are out in the community changing lives through sport. Here is a rundown of events on this week in Leeds

Come along to a Rhinestones Dance Academy class at a venue near you (Taking place Monday, Tuesday and Thursday every week)

Young dancers of all abilities can take part in the weekly sessions led by Dance Development Officers Nicola Booth and Alishia Schofield alongside their team of student teachers from the senior Rhinestones group.

Rhinestones classes focus on street dance and cheer dance technique and are a great way for young dancers to learn the coolest moves, meet new friends and get the opportunity to experience the thrill of performing in front of thousands of Rhinos fans at the Headingley Carnegie Stadium on match days as well as, starring in an annual Rhinestones dance show.

Dancers of all abilities are welcome with the first class FREE of charge and classes then priced at £3.50 per class or a block of six classes for £18. Suitable footwear and clothing for dancing is advised along with a water bottle.

Rhinos Active Social Group (Every Tuesday 10:30am-12:30pm)

Every week Leeds Foundation invites over 55s to partake in the Rhinos Active Social club. Built on the premise of a friendly, casual atmosphere group members enjoy socialising and the sessions put on by the friendly staff.

Over the two hours a wide variety of activities including beginner's yoga, tai chi and chair based exercise are offered to encourage physical activity for those wanting to keep fit. If that's not for you, not to worry as members are welcome to attend simply for the interaction and free refreshments.

The aim of the project is simple – to engage the older community in activities to improve their physical, mental and social well-being by taking part in regular activities.

Sessions run every Tuesday 10:30am-12:30pm and cost just £2 per week.

Leeds Rhinos Foundation and People in Action are bringing men with learning disabilities together to talk about their health, well being and relationships with an exciting new programme at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.

The new 12-week Men's Health Education programme funded by Leeds City Council is part of People in Action's current Health and Well being Programme. This programme is designed to provide access to learning that enables adults with a learning disability to live more independently with greater choice and control. 

This course runs on Monday day times in Leeds. The sessions run between 11.00am and 13.00pm in a 12-week programme, 48 weeks a year. Each session is free to attend but please register beforehand by contacting info@peopleinaction.org.uk or call 0113 2443729.

Sign up for the new 8-week Try Tag Rugby League at John Smeaton Leisure Centre (15th November onwards)
 

Leeds Rhinos Foundation in partnership with Try Tag Rugby are offering a new weekly Tag Rugby League competition at John Smeaton Academy continuing this Tuesday as part of the new 8 week Autumn league.

The league is a perfect chance for adult players (male & female aged 14+) to enjoy a sociable, fun and great-for- fitness weekly activity and you can sign up as an individual or with your pals as a 7 a 'side team incorporating 4 males and 3 females on the pitch at a time.

Each team will play one 40-minute game each week and this will be followed by a weekly after match social where players will get the chance to have a drink and a bite to eat with their team mates and opposition in a local pub.

Leeds Rhinos Foundation is encouraging the Leeds community to kick start their winter fitness goals by enjoying weekly social rugby with Leeds City Council's Indoor Touch Rugby programme managed by the Sport and Active Lifestyles Service.

The league, which is played to international touch rugby rules, is suitable for mixed genders and all abilities, with teams of players as well as individuals welcome to 'turn up and play.' 

Teams consist of up to eight players incorporating three subs and five outfield players, playing two 20 minute halves spread over the evening with different kick off times varying each week from 6-9pm. 

The indoor Winter league due to start soon, in the Bowls and Athletics arena costs £25 per team with 'turn up and play' players welcome to attend and pay an individual fee of £3 per person. 

The programme is also looking for new referees to officiate the weekly fixtures with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation's 'Ref with the Rhinos' mentoring scheme available for people interested in working towards a referee qualification to and a chance to learn to referee a different rugby format where they can earn £10 per game refereeing this winter.

Junior Indoor Touch Festival at Football World (Under 10s Age Group – 19th November)

Leeds Rhinos Foundation's commitment to supporting the development of Rugby League through their Rugby League Development Plan, sponsored by Mears, will once again see them offer Indoor Touch Rugby Festivals throughout winter.

The Winter Indoor Touch Festivals offer the charity's Ambassador Clubs the opportunity to play in mini games during their off season, with the larger aim of improving the skill development of junior players aged six to 11.

The format of the tournaments is five-a-side touch rugby which is designed to improve elements of the young players games such as speed, agility, teamwork, communication and technique.

Venue: Football World, Pontefract Lane, Leeds LS9 0RA
Cost: £2 per player to cover the facility costs.
Format: 5-a-side festival with eight team members, with three players resting always. All rules and regulations will be sent out once you respond, confirming your attendance.
Time: Registration 10.30am – 10.45am with games starting at 11am until 1.30pm
