Leeds Rhinos Foundation reached a social media milestone this week as the charity hit 10,000 followers on Twitter to extend its position as the most followed charitable trust in Rugby League
The milestone follows in the footsteps of the Leeds Rhinos, who were ranked as the third best professional sports club in the country in 2015 in terms of how the club promotes itself via social media in a ‘league table’ of 148 professional football clubs, rugby clubs of both codes and county cricket clubs in England and Scotland.
By reaching 10,000 followers this week, Leeds Rhinos Foundation further cemented it’s position as top of the table among Rugby League Foundations with Warrington Wolves Foundation the nearest charity on 4472 followers.
The total also eclipses charity Foundations across the sports industry ranking better than 14 of the 20 football team charities in the English Premier League, behind Manchester United (163k) Liverpool (32.4k) Man City (17.9k) Southampton (13.5k) and Newcastle (11.1k) who all command large international audiences.
Media Executive for Leeds Rhinos Foundation Dan Phillis commented:
“It’s fantastic to see more and more people engage with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation on social media.
“Our parent club Leeds Rhinos have a fantastic record on social media and regularly place highly among sports clubs across the country and by emulating these good practices we have been able to build a good following for the Foundation to help us promote the charity well online.”
Leeds Rhinos Foundation now have an official presence on Facebook and Twitter with events also promoted on the charity’s LinkedIn profile and plans to engage with further audiences and new platforms going forward.
Dan Phillis added:
“As a not-for-profit charity funded by donations, sponsors and our partnerships with organisations in the city, it is important for us to engage with new and bigger audiences and our digital output is a large part of that.
“The growth of followers on the two main platforms we use really demonstrates the increasing reach of our charity in the community and it’s important that we now continue to get the word out there about our programmes going forward.”
