Leeds Rhinos Foundation become official Real PE training provider

On the back of training with Create Development, Leeds Rhinos Foundation is pleased to announce a new official license to deliver in-school support for schools delivering Real PE in Leeds as part of an exciting new relationship

Real PE, which is one of the frameworks delivered by Create Development, is fully aligned to the new National Curriculum and Ofsted requirements and focuses on the development of agility, balance and coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning through a unique and market leading approach to teaching and learning in PE.

Create Development, established in 2008 is a national company providing physical activity frameworks and innovative training and resources to support primary schools, families and communities to transform the culture of physical activity.

The Create Development approach creates habits and develops essential behaviours, physical literacy, emotional and thinking skills among children, including support for Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 practitioners that give them the confidence and skills to deliver outstanding PE in schools.

Through the training delivered over three days this half term with Create Development North Director Pam Stevenson, Leeds Rhinos Foundation community staff are now licensed to deliver and provide support for schools in Leeds who have incorporated the programme into their curriculum.

Create Development North Director Pam Stevenson said:

“I’m absolutely delighted today to formalise the relationship with the Leeds Rhinos Foundation, who have got an official license to deliver in school support for Real PE within Leeds which is really exciting.

“We have established a really lovely positive relationship with Leeds Rhinos Foundation, for us, you are working are in schools and a lot of those staff are already delivering Real PE and it’s given Leeds Rhinos Foundation a chance to be able to work with teachers and support teachers in embedding this new and exciting scheme of work.”

Leeds Rhinos Foundation Community Manager Gareth Cook said:

“At the moment we have over 100 partner schools and there are 100 schools in Leeds who buy into Real PE already and it was a natural fit for us to upskill our staff to assist in upskilling teachers and working alongside the Real PE framework within Primary Schools.

“Having gone through the three days training the knowledge that they take back into their schools, underpinning knowledge of how and why we teach it a certain way and deliver certain skills, reward, praise and set objectives is a really important part, so it really just quality assures the provision we provide in primary schools.”

Since starting in 2008, Create Development has worked with over 1,500 families, 4,000 schools and has trained over 18,000 practitioners having a positive impact on over 1 million children.

Pam Stevenson added:

“Real PE is a very innovative programme, it’s a vision about really encouraging and embedding children to be holistic, so that they become not just physically competent with the fundamental movement skills which are really at the heart of Real PE, but also to focus on strongly and repeatedly, their social skills, their personal skills, so we get resilient children, children that are happy to explore, we get children that are confident meeting new people and that really fits beautifully with the foundation’s vision as well.

“The standard of delivery from the Leeds Rhinos Foundation staff has really moved from strength to strength through the three days of training, they were very confident and very vibrant and very exciting deliverers and what we have been able to do embed some of the teaching principles and some of the OFSTED framework and improve them and the way that they work in that school culture.
