The Leeds Rhinos Foundation welcomed local primary school Bramley St Peter’s to take part in the Guard of Honour pitch ceremony at last Friday’s Leeds Rhinos home Super League Fixture against Widnes Vikings.
The opening home fixture of the 2015 season saw over 300 children involved in the entertainment as part of a season long initiative to involve all of the Ambassador clubs and schools in the match day experience.
The evening involved 11 clubs and schools in total, all taking part as Guards of Honour, Player Escorts, Flag Bearers and Half Time teams. For pupils from Bramley St Peter’s the game was a chance to rub shoulders with their heroes from the Rhinos first team:
Lizzie Woodward who took part in the guard of honour ceremony for her school, wrote a letter to the club in the week leading up to the game:
Here at Bramley St. Peter’s we have a long history of playing rugby league, and currently have a rugby club on a Tuesday after school. We train really hard to be the best we can be!
We enjoy playing lots of tackle and tag tournaments in the local area with other primary schools, and are part of the Leeds and Hunslet District League. We are hoping to win the Cully Sevens this year and will train so that can be a possibility.
Our ex-pupil Ashton Goulding joined our club when he was seven, after training at our school, then Priesthorpe High School and Stanningley RLFC he now plays for Leeds Rhinos. Hopefully some our team will follow in his footsteps and become professional rugby players.
We are delighted to have been given the honour of representing our school as the Guard of Honour at the Leeds v Widnes game on February 13th it’s a great way to show how much we love rugby and how proud our school is of our links with the Rhinos.
We congratulate the Rhinos on their Challenge Cup win last season and wish them all the best in all their games this season!
The Leeds Rhinos and it’s official charity, the Leeds Rhinos Foundation, would like to thank all the schools who helped make Friday’s game a success. It was a great start to the Rhinos home fixtures this season and we wish Lizzie and all the schools involved the best of luck in their school rugby this season.
